September 2023

Just a bit about me. I live in Greater Manchester with my husband Gary and deaf rescue lurcher dog Barm. My occupation is a Train Driver which I have done for over 30 years. My hobbies are collecting just about everything ( I am not a hoarder ) I’m far too organized and tidy for that ! Cars, gardening, walking and cleaning my car ! I have been a member of this club for many years now and would recommend it to anyone. Please make the most of it by getting involved on meets etc as you wont regret it !

I would like to thank everyone who voted for my photo for September 2023 Car of the month “ Beading “…. It means a lot to me.

Here is a write up about my pride & joy. It maybe a bit of a read, but it’s quite interesting and heartwarming.

230 SLK Kompressor Facelift model on a 51 plate.
6 Speed Manual gear box. 197 BHP
Mileage 46,060.00
Exterior Colour = Yellowstone ( AKA Sunburst Yellow (685)
Interior Colour = Lotus Yellow ( AKA ) Citrus Two Tone scheme leather (219). This particular interior colour scheme only ran from Feb 2000 through until Feb 2002 hence its rarity.
The car was first registered on 19/11/2001.
I purchased the car on 02/03/2013 from a car sales garage in Glasshoughton, Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I first spotted the car in an advert at a local garage I wasn’t looking to buy another car as I was happy with the Ford Focus I already had at the time, but as soon as I saw the SLK it caught my attention, I know it’s difficult not to as you can see from the colour scheme. I must of looked at the advert million times, I was just so drawn to it. I arranged to go and view it and took it for a test drive, apart from the obvious colour of the inside and out, the other thing that stood out to me was the retro look of the dash and especially the dials, switches etc, that was me hooked. So I purchased her on 02/03/2013. She came with a full service history, lots of paperwork, receipts and all the previous Tax discs. Also I found a Mercedes Benz leather cap in one of the pockets, I decided to leave the cap in place and have it as my lucky charm to keep me safe whilst I was out and about. After a number of years I came across a log book slip amongst some of the paperwork, it had a chaps name on it, by this time Social media was in full swing and as the chap had an unusual name and I had the area he lived in, I decided to try and contact him just to find out a bit more of its history. I received a reply from a guy who said it wasn’t his car, but it was his late fathers ( they shared the same name ) and he gave me details to contact his older brother as he had dealt with the sale to the garage where I purchased it from. I did so and fortunately he was pleased to hear from me. He told me that his Dad had served in the forces then retired, he had always wanted a convertible Mercedes car, so it was a treat to himself in his retirement. It meant everything to him, but unfortunately he didn’t get that much time to enjoy it as he became sick and sadly passed away, so then the car just sat on their Mums driveway, getting into a bit of a state in the process. Hence their son selling it to the garage. I asked his son if their Dad had owned a leather Cap inside the pocket, but he didn’t know for sure. I have always kept in touch with his son, and I always send him the photos from meet ups, car shows etc of his Dads old car, then one day he contacted me to say that his Mum had passed away and whilst they were clearing out her home they found a couple of old photos of the car, well to my surprise on one of the photos was the cap, placed on the car ( photos ) So it was his Dads after all ! The cap still stays in that same pocket I found it in as it will always remain, the car isn’t mine, it’s Frank’s, I am just looking after it in his absence. Each time I drive her I touch that pocket and say “ look after me Frank, let’s go for a drive “ I will always and his son photos of events I attend, competitions I enter and now I can tell him all about winning this September car of the month one. He told me that his Dad must of sent his car to me as he must of known I would look after it and cherish it as much as he did… and I will….always…. So here’s to Frank !

Thanks for reading mine and Franks story… and thanks for voting for us.
